Brazil published it’s first biostrategy back in 2021 October at State of Para. Since then are there any improvements regarding biogas incentives and regulations in Brazil? What kind of subsidies or power purchasing agreements are available for plant owners?

In Brazil there is nothing similar to the feed-in tariff. There are programs that reduce the costs of raising funds for implementation. The most common are programs that equalize interest rates. The best example of a program in this sense is RENOVA PARANA, a program from the state of Paraná to reduce costs in raising funds for investments in renewable energy projects in agribusiness.

What has been expanded is the incentive for new revenues, such as RENOVABIO, a national program for issuing certificates for decarbonization of the transport sector. Through plant certification, it issues CBIOs linked to the volume of biomethane produced and applied in the transport sector.
