Job Description
The Manager Alternative Fuel Systems aids in the development of alternative fueling systems through the design, installation and operation of innovative natural gas customer solutions. Responsible for implementing PGS’s offerings of Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) and other energy options. Coordinates planning and development activities to meet the growing demand of cleaner energy solutions for Peoples Gas. This position is a leading liaison with large commercial and industrial customers and facilitates the deal-making process, including analysis, due diligence and negotiations. A successful candidate will support the Peoples Gas Business Development team with the implementation of department strategies and ensuring that team goals are met. Internally builds and maintains relationships to help facilitate communication and partnerships across the organization. Assists the Director and Manager in developing presentations, managing internal databases, and liaison with outside contracts and developers. Company participation in community events, conferences, and trade shows as they relate to promoting natural gas growth areas. Serves as a point of contact in Peoples Gas Business Development team for various organizations, stakeholder groups, and the general public. Identifies and tracks changes in the industry or regulatory environment that will impact the team and our potential projects.
Responsibilities
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Strong focus on the business segment development and operations for PGS’s alternative fuel system businesses. This includes origination, negotiation and execution of contracts for alternative fuel customer solutions, as well as strategy development, regulatory filings and market assessments. Deliverables will include executable opportunities to meet business objectives and will be aligned with 5-year and 10-year plans, natural gas supply/demand dynamics, environmental scans, SWOT analyses, and system resource requirements.
- Negotiates and executes complex structured transactions related to renewable fuels, with a particular emphasis on new products and RNG infrastructure investments. Proactive initiation of management reviews and approvals of strategic business growth opportunities. RNG investments will be coordinated with PGS system expansion strategies. Manage customers to meet current and future natural gas energy needs and provide services to potential customers, including but not limited to sales and marketing, natural gas consulting project costing, project feasibility and contract negotiations.
- Designs, develops, and supports Business Development’s analytical solutions including but not limited to Power BI dashboards, operational and customer reports, ad-hoc queries, and decision-making support.
- Manage administrative duties of the Business Development team and supervise support staff/student consultants.
- Conduct market segment analysis as needed.
- Participate in industry related organizations including NGV America, Florida Natural Gas Association, AGA, RNG Coalition, Thermal Renewable Collaborative and American Biogas Council.
- Prepare department reports as identified including verbal review of presentations.
- Provide oversight of administrative management of Department Budget and provide appropriate support with consultation of Business Development leadership.
- Collaborates with business units to analyze business processes, identify, and develop improvements, and drives the implementation of process improvement opportunities.
- Explores and recommends emerging technologies in support of continually enhancing PGS Analytics’ capabilities.
Working Conditions
Requires working extended hours and weekends; medium to high stress work environment; and frequent overnight travel is required.
Physical Demands
Physical ability to safely lift, carry and maneuver heavy boxes, display panels, etc. while setting up for tradeshows and other industry events.
Job Qualifications
Must Haves:
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
- Exposure or direct experience in the energy industry and an understanding of the utility business model.
- Ability to communicate effectively; excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills and demonstrates appropriate technical skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency in project management.
- Must have excellent analytical ability, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Must be detailed and strategy oriented and able to work on numerous projects and activities simultaneously.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and PowerPoint.
Nice-to-Haves:
- Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in the field of business, marketing, engineering, economics, finance, science, math, or related technical field.
- Customer relations, account management or sales experience.
- Strong attention to detail and critical thinking skills.
- Intermediate knowledge of database management, Power BI, data modeling, and strong presentation preparation ability.
- Understanding of gas utility business practices.
- Ability to plan and organize multiple tasks withing the different functional areas of the organization.
- Advanced PowerPoint knowledge and presentation skills.
- Knowledge of alternative fuels, including services and strategies, with competitive market understanding.
- Understanding of developing natural gas service and transportation agreements and tariffs.
- Knowledge of natural gas transportation industry protocols, business practices, and regulatory constructs.
